We bring trans people together with professionals from across the media. Together with our brilliant network of trans people and parents of trans kids, we build connections, relationships and understanding.
We work to transform the media landscape across both popular culture and news media – creating content which includes trans voices and reflects the realities of what it means to be trans.
Since launching in 2011 All About Trans has worked with over 700 media professionals from across soaps, dramas and news media.
Through these collaborations we’ve brought about better, more accurate and authentic representation – representation which answers people’s questions about transgender people and their lives, centres the voices of transgender people and helps to build understanding about what it’s like to be transgender.
Much of our work happens through “interactions”, informal meet ups between trans people and professionals. These are always off the record. They’re open, honest, constructive conversations. They’re space away from the noise of media coverage, where people have a chance to connect as people, to ask questions and to learn from each other.
Over the past decade, we’ve worked on new and ongoing storylines of trans characters in dramas streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime. We’ve partnered with major soaps – Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and EastEnders – to introduce trans characters and develop existing storylines.
We brought about the award-winning BBC Two sitcom Boy Meets Girl. We’ve worked with news media including NewsUK, the BBC, the Guardian, The Sun, the Daily Mail and many more.
We’ve worked with Cosmopolitan on a feature about trans joy and supported the British Board of Film Classification on a resource to accompany films about trans experiences. In 2022 All About Trans collaborated on I, Joan – a critically acclaimed production staged at The Globe, London.
Our network of spokespeople have appeared across broadcast media, including on shows airing on the BBC, Talk Radio and LBC, and written comment pieces in The Guardian, Independent, Huck and Metro.
Care is at the heart of everything we do. We create supportive networks, working with people with direct experience to tell their stories. We build communities based on trust, understanding and changing the world for the better.
