What we do

We spark stories that create change

Let’s start with the name: Heard. Because our ethos lives in our name.

Heard is a charity working with people and the media to inspire content and communication that changes hearts and minds.

We all know that being heard matters. On a fundamental level, good communication means being heard and feeling heard. And good communication is transformative. It can shift perspectives, and move conversations – and society – forward.

Therefore, in a world that can feel loud, divided and awash with misunderstanding, our work is making sure we can hear each other.

It’s about finding common ground on big, important issues. Connecting people. Growing understanding. Check out our core programmes focussed on issues such as climate change, poverty, domestic abuse, transgender experiences, migration and children’s palliative care.

Our name also reflects how we centre and support people whose stories need to be heard at scale.

This is our big mission.

But, how do we do it?

Heard work with collaborators in three ways:

1. We connect media professionals with people who’ve directly experienced different issues.

2. We support people to get the best out of media engagements.

3. We use insights from research to help storytellers land their message and engage audiences.

We’ve spent 15 years supporting communicators, constantly developing the best approaches. Our work has reached millions of people in their living rooms (we work with soaps, documentaries, dramas) and on their newsfeeds (BBC, Sky, ITV). We regularly join forces with sector-leading charity organisations (Choose Love, Trussell Trust).

We invite more people to join us on this journey, whether by collaborating with us to create great content, joining one of our courses or being part of one of our networks.

We like to share our values, so you know who you’re working with: we’re inclusive, thoughtful, patient, creative, determined and brave.
